Always wonderful to see South Africa as part of International Competitions which give amazing opportunities to baristas!
The South African leg of the Lavazza International Barista Challenge will take place on 01 December ’23 at 54 on Bath in Rosebank.
This is the old Grace Hotel, a beautiful “old school”, upmarket hotel, owned by Southern Sun. The comp will take place in the Batha Room (2nd floor).
The competition is aimed at providing a platform for up-and-coming baristas to compete on a national stage. This will be the first time that many of these baristas will compete on this level.
The comp is a once-off (no heats or qualification stages) with the winner crowned based on the highest score on the day.
The baristas must prepare a signature drink only (espresso and cappuccino NOT required). The spirit of the comp is to motivate and inspire creativity and, crucially, provide a platform for the next local rising star.
The comp will expose the entrants to the world of Lavazza and the professional coffee “stage” with no commitment required to use Lavazza.
The winner will be crowned the Lavazza South Africa Barista Challenge champion, where they will compete against the other country winners from across the globe.
The main prize, for the SA winner, is an all-expenses paid trip to Turin, Italy to compete in the finals of the Lavazza International Barista Challenge. The winner will also receive a beautiful glass trophy.
