Exciting News: The 2025 SCASA Coffee Championships Are Almost Here!
Coffee lovers, competitors, and industry professionals, mark your calendars! The much-anticipated 2025 Coffee Championships are just around the corner, showcasing the skill, passion, and creativity of the country’s top coffee professionals.
Event Details: The Championships will take place in three regions and will cumulate at the National Finals at Speciality Coffee Expo in Fourways at the end of May 2025.
Western Cape – African School of Coffee – 1, 2 March 2025
Gauteng – Kushinda Academy - 15, 16 March 2025
KZN – Ciro Beverage Academy – 12, 13 April
Competitors will go head-to-head in a series of challenges (see format here) as determined by World Coffee Events, demonstrating their expertise in everything from espresso making to latte art and cup tasters. SCASA will be launching an educational series after the conclusion of the competition cycle for 2025, and an introductory workshop will be held at each event to showcase the plans and calendar for the year ahead. Equipment: This year, competitors will use the following equipment in their respective categories:
Barista Championships: La Marzocco Linea Mini and Fiorenzato F64 Evo Sense Pro Grinders. The official water sponsor is Bluewater who is supplying WBC Spec water.
Latte Art Championship: Thermoplan, the Official WLAC machines, are currently in transit to South Africa, should they not make it in time for Cape Town, the Barista Championship machines will be used. Milk supplied by Woodlands Dairy – SPAR and alternative milk sponsored by Liquid Concepts with MilkLab.
Cup Tasters Championship: Mocca Master filter machines with cups and bowls supplied by Equipment Café and coffee supplied by SEAM.
