Smak Coffee Co. is a family-run coffee roastery based in Cape Town. Each member of the Smak Coffee family (by blood or by choice) brings a distinct individuality that shapes the character of the brand. Their shared passion for coffee sits at the heart of everything they do, grounded in the core values of family, excellence, dependability, and innovation.
The Smak journey began in 2022 when they took over an already established roastery. What
started as a single-blend operation with a loyal customer base gradually evolved into a
more refined and expanded offering. As they grew, so did the vision. In August 2024, they
officially rebranded to Smak Coffee Co., marking the beginning of a new chapter focused
on quality, consistency, and a strong sense of identity.
The word Smak means “taste” or “flavour” in Polish, Danish, and Swedish — an idea that
sits at the core of their coffee philosophy. It’s also a playful, memorable word: easy to say,
a little different, and reflective of their personality as a brand. At its heart, the name is a
reminder that great coffee should be approachable, enjoyable, and something you
return to every day!

It’s a truly hands-on operation. From roasting and packing to managing deliveries and
working closely with their customers, every family member is actively involved in the
day-to-day running of the business. That level of involvement keeps the team closely
connected, not just to the coffee they produce, but to the people they serve.
"Like most roasters, our learning journey has been shaped by curiosity, experimentation
and hands-on experience. What’s defined our growth is learning as a team: from each
other, from industry professionals, and from the customers we work with every day. One
of the most important lessons we’ve taken forward is that great coffee doesn’t end at
the roaster — it’s equally about how it’s brewed and treated when it leaves the roastery. That understanding continues to shape how we operate, particularly in how closely we
support our wholesale partners to ensure that every cup reaches its full potential"
