Jason's Bakery in Greenpoint is an institution in this neighbourhood. Besides churning out the most delectable pastries and breads for the locals, the coffee offering is world-class, and the restaurant experience is one of the best cafe-fare moments I've had in a long time.
These were some of my highlights:
- I went there every morning for three days in a row. Sometimes early, sometimes later. It was always well staffed and efficient.
- There is a separate queue for takeaways and sit-down. The staff handle crowds (it gets busy!) very well.
- The coffee and food was consistent and delicious, and served quickly.
- The croisssants were some of the best I've ever tasted, especially the almond one!
- Lunch is epic! The bardough bread toasties with a cold beer at lunchtime is the stuff of legends!
- The locals and tourists, casual and business people, families and solo travellers mingle here easily and comfortably.
- Their alternative options - from milk substitutes to matcha and other beverage bases are covered easily.
- Finally, it is walking distance to Greenpoint park, which on an early summers morning is one of those most peaceful, beautiful greenbelts you will find in any city in the world.
