The Sett is a working office space that’s not your office. Toni is the hostess that greets you at the door and settles you in. It’s perfect for creatives and entrepreneurs who work from their computers on the road. Sometimes you just need to have a meeting with a screen to do a skype call and good coffee and comfortable chairs. While these agile spaces are popular in Cape Town and Joburg, the first of its concept to hit Durbs has found its home at the hub of office related business, the Umhlanga Ridge.
Popular Durban businessman, Creator of the Story Sessions and founders of
Appletree Catalyst Agency, Travis Gale and business partner Don Muller have designed the space the way they wanted to work. It’s social, relaxed, there’s ambient noise, you can play with hackie sacks on your self-imposed break and you may be sitting next to a freelance journalist or an IT guru.
How it generally works is you pay a flat rate per day, week or a month at a time and have full access to all the facilities that The Sett offers, including coffee, tasty food from their fresh Deli offerings, all the conveniences of a modern office and wifi and power are on tap. You can even rent your own locker and have your own bookshelf to store your things if you want to settle in for a few weeks at a time. There are enough plug points to make it visible from space if each held lamps. Sbu is the resident barista and he's serving up a brew from The Coffee Merchant.

Travis explains the origin of the idea as stemming naturally from the work he was doing with Appletree and also seeing the need for entrepreneurs and travelling business people to have a friendly yet productive space to base themselves.
