We are having serious FOMO at the moment as World of Coffee Geneva takes place this week, bringing together coffee friends from around the world.
Two of our SCASA National Champs, Retha van Rhijn (Cup Tasters) and Jeff Stopforth (Latte Art) are there representing South Africa. Two of our guests at next months Creative Coffee Week Durban, Georgius Teja, supported by World Barista Champion Mikael Jasin, are also there competing at the Coffee in Good Spirits Champs.
Congratulations to Retha for a valiant effort and scoring 6/8 in a time of 4.52min in Round One. The standard is incredible, with 10 of the 16 competitors that went through to the Quarterfinals scoring 8/8 Cups. Retha ended in 28th position out of 49 competitors in this discipline! And we are certain she will bring back a lot of new knowledge.
Jeff did not make it through to the Semi-final Round, but his pours were wonderful. We await hearing where his exact placement, but he was happy with his performance! Again, the standards are exceptional and the level of detail that the best in the world are able to get in a cup is just wild really. Well done, Jeff!
And Mr Stephen Vick, a true legend of coffee and a Cup of Excellence Head Judge, is there soaking it all up and bringing back knowledge and Cup of Excellence Coffees for our community! Exciting!
