New Kid on the Block: ukhu

A sanctuary for all things cycling and coffee, ukhu has arrived on the cafe scene!

Craig Uria, a practising chiropractor, and David Higgs, chef and serial entrepreneur are bound together by friendship and their shared love of cycling! They have launched Ukhu at the Rosebank Parks creating an urban athletic hub that celebrates being active and drinking amazing coffee. We had the opportunity to visit and we have to say that this space is impressive!

Let's make one thing clear. This is not a bike shop! Yes, there are some incredibly sexy and highly sought after pieces of art (Pinarello Bicycles) available, but this isn't a place you take your average bike for a tune up.

This is a place for community, bespoke gear and even a body tune up with the highly skilled, Craig. If you need to refuel, there's a delicious menu from Mr Higgs. Simple, with options for both the calorie conscious and the indulgent spoil parts of your week. And of course, coffee. They have a custom blend roasted by Cedar Coffee. The shots are pulled on an exquisite Victoria Arduino and Kay, the barista, is all about the attention to detail. We first met Kay at a stormy Fives session last year during Creative Coffee Week and he is up to the challenge of the very high standards here at ukhu.

They stock a limited range of the most beautiful active wear and accessories for your bodies and your bikes, carefully selecting only the best local and international brands. There was a steady flow of locals when we were there between 8 and 9am, but apparently we had already missed the early morning rush, as they're open from 6am!
