A lovely little cafe in the culturally rich Karoo town of Prince Albert. The decor is whimsical and interesting. And the store is a treasure trove for the kind of shopper that values aesthetics and health. So many beautiful things! The Watershed building also includes luxury dog brand, Chommies. Lucky puppies!
The set up, including a LaMarzocco Strada, promises big things. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the level of roast of the beans in the hopper, but was pleasantly surprised by the well balanced flat white that arrived. A great start to my morning. This is an important note, the clientele here are largely retiree age living out their best lives & a more traditional darker roast makes sense. As I said, the coffee was great, perfect temperature and very satisfying!
The breakfast was delightful, freshly baked bread, eggs cooked to respective perfection and a great hollondaise on the Benedict with a drizzle of a herb oil that made everything pop. And we couldn’t resist the chocolate cake that was still delightfully warm from the oven, topped with a citrus cream and lemon zest (one of my favourite ingredients!).
A little microcosm of the Prince Albert creative vibe, this little stoep is well worth a visit.
