Have you ever tried a coffee that has been farmed, processed and roasted in South Africa? Well, this is your chance!
We are very excited to be reviewing this coffee, the second of six, in our Discover Great Coffee Club Winter 2025 box, for three very important reasons...
1. It is a South African grown coffee, from Eshowe, KZN!
2. We visited the coffee farm and met the farmer last year!
3. It is Creative Coffee Week, in Durban next week, and we're getting excited about another epic farm tour to some KZN coffee farms!
....and it tastes absolutely incredible. Let's get into it!
The roast profile is medium and the aroma that comes off these beans is amazing!
I brewed it using an espresso machine and extracted a delicious shot with beautiful thick crema.
I absolutely loved brewing this coffee! The fact that I'd been to the farm, met the farmer and his team who lovingly grew and harvested the cherries, and the fact that everything about this coffee from seed to my cup, had taken place in my home province was simply mind-blowing!
I was pleasantly surprised at the thick crema in the cup and on first sip, the espresso was bright and clean. I immediately added some milk to make a cortado and really loved how well it paired with milk to bring out a rich, chocolate and nut flavour. Simply delicious!
This coffee, is one of six, featured in the latest issue of Coffee Magazine.
This is us, and our coffee friends visiting the actual farm in Eshowe where the Sir Gratton coffee is grown!
It is an amazing feeling walking among the coffee trees and seeing the coffee cherries on the branches. This is just after the harvest, but if you look closely, you can still see one or two coffee cherries left on the tree.
