The National Barista competition for Krispy Kreme was held at the Design Quarter in Johannesburg today, with Krispy Kreme baristas from all over South Africa going head-to-head in an attempt to win the R10 000 first prize!
In the end, it was Nolwande Fortunate Malambe (Castlegate, JHB) who took the honours, with Nothando Pearl Ndlela (Gateway, KZN) coming in second and Lindokuhle Penelope Mandlazi (also Castlegate!) taking third place.
CEO of Krispy Kreme SA, Gerry Thomas, was on hand along with Avanti MD, Stacey Moss, to hand over the prizes to some very excited baristas! They are doing really good work to show their baristas the possibilities for their career.
For us it was a great opportunity to see baristas discovering a new side of coffee and a good reminder that the start of competing in coffee is difficult, but it is so rewarding! We left feeling super inspired and really happy for the winners, that prize money is proper!
This is the second internal National barista champs in the last two weeks for the Avanti team, who did this all last week too with the Southern Sun baristas.
In both cases, the baristas are flown in from around the country, a new experience for many of them.
