Make Deep Cleaning Your Equipment Part of Coffee Ritual

Capsule coffee machines need some cleaning love too! For the best results in flavour and the longevity of your equipment, deep cleaning your equipment is necessary and it can be a meditative part of your routine too. In any espresso machine, even the convenient capsule variety, there are two (or 3 if you include the milk frothing apparatus) important sections to clean regularly. The Brew Unit and the Boiler or Thermoblock system. This is the water heating system on most capsule espresso machines.

We know, we know, cleaning is a chore right?! But it doesn't have to be a difficult one! Companies like Caffenu (proudly South African!) have made the process incredibly easy and eco friendly.

Today, we're focusing on the capsule machine cleaning. Cleaning the brew unit is very straightforward, pop in the specially formulated capsule. Run the machine according to the instructions on the box. Eject and run without capsule. Easy peasy. If you do this once a month (based on a couple cups a day), you'll be keeping your coffee tasting great!

Then comes the Descaling. So what is Scale? And how does it negatively impact your equipment. Scale is when limestone builds up in your coffee brewer. Water that is rapidly heated sheds some of its hard minerals and they attach to the inside of your boiler or thermoblock unit, building up over time. This can inhibit the flow of water, resulting in a less than ideal shot.

By using a Descaling Agent mixed with water and running at least 500ml of this solution through your equipment once every 3 months (also based on how much you use the equipment), you can avoid any build up.
