After an extended hiatus, the roasters received their coffees at the beginning of February and are now putting the final touches on their roasts and blends!
The judging will take place on the 2nd of March at Zuka Green Coffee. The team of Nicodemus Nabakwe, Mike MacDonald and Cuth Bland, ably assisted by Thoriso Mafisa and Retha van Rhijn will be putting the delicious coffees from Raw Material and Muraho Trading through their paces.
All tasting happens blind, so no one, except for Iain and Mel of Coffee Magazine, know which coffees belong to which roasters. They are all brewed using specially designed water from BWT water + more.
We are brewing the espressos on a beautiful La Marzocco GB5S and the roasters have a choice of either the Mahlkonig E65S or EK43 for their recipe.
We are thrilled to announce that Stevo Kuhn of Urban Brew Barista Academy, the newly crowned SA Barista Champion will be behind the machine. Retha van Rhijn will also join as some training for the Cup Tasters Championship. This will certainly be a good test for her skilled palate.
The Winner will be announced at Genio Coffee Roasters at about 3pm. We will be streaming this LIVE on Instagram.
