Baard&Co Coffee Roastery is more than a coffee shop, it's an experience! We were lucky enough to visit this unique spot in Durbanville at the end of last year, just before the Coffee Magazine Awards, and we had wonderful time. One of the best things about it, is their hospitality, led by owner and roaster, Ronel de Jager.
Ronel has such a kind soul and she has such a good eye for aesthetics. She has created a space that mirrors this. Not only did we enjoy some delicious coffees but the food was outstanding, and it is obvious that this cafe is an integral part of the community - with many locals dropping in for a quick coffee, buying freshly baked goods at the bakery or others just settling in for a long morning of great food and drinks with friends. Ok, but before we forget, they have become famous in (literally) the world of bread for their works of art captured in dough!
Ronel has been the driving force behind this project and her enthusiasm and care for the staff she employs and the products they serve is evident.
Baard & Co won a Shot in the Dark in 2023, and the trophy stood proudly on the counter top for the duration of their tenure as Champions. On bar there is always an interesting coffee and they source and roast some pretty experimental and unusual varietals to delight their customers.
There is a lot to explore at Baard & Co, and we strongly suggest that the best way to do this is to spend some time there. You will always feel at home and the longer you stay, the more part of the community you will feel.
