Christiaan Jacobs, from Sorcery Coffee in Pretoria, this week placed 3rd in the World in the Lavazza International Barista Competition held in Turin Italy.
The competition took place at the international headquarter, and birthplace of Lavazza, in Torino, Italy on 17 April 2024. Christiaan from South Africa placed in an incredible place against the best of the best in the world, a phenomenal achievement for a first time entry for South Africa!
Christiaan Jacobs and the team from Ciro and Lavazza SA, Rudi van Jaarsveld and Samantha Naidoo, represented South Africa in the international finals of the event, after Christiaan won the qualifying event in South African last year. Christiaan also placed in the TOP 6 of the SA National Barista Champs in March 2024, so he has been in great form going into this event and achieving a very significant third place!
The National County winners from countries around the world competed in a signature drink format with a 10 minute time limit, SCA format. South Africa was narrowly beaten by Greece (2nd Place) and UAE (1st Place) .
