One of our favourite things about coffee is discovering it in the most unlikely of places, we also have a love of a ‘padstal’ (Farm Stall) and as it happens, just outside Mossel Bay one of the newest and most talented roasters in the country calls a noteworthy highway pitstop home.
The Roastery is located inside the Vyeboom Padstal in Hartenbos on the R102 as you drive through Mossel Bay. You can’t miss it! It is one of the stops that travellers between Cape Town and the Garden Route plan their drive around. And it’s not only the coffee! The pies there are pretty damn tasty - in the authentic karoo, old-school farmhouse style - we tried several of them!
The coffee blends are all named after places in and around Mossel Bay, local and proud! Loved the Mossel Bay Blend in the hopper!
The Roastery may not be a place to linger and savour your tasty brew, but it certainly is a place to refuel the mind and body - grab a takeaway coffee, a few bags of beans and some padkos for the drive ahead. Be sure to stop in on your way past next time you hit the highway.
Look at those cappuccinos! Ready to hit the road.
This is as fresh as it gets! Coffee expertly roasted by Byron Smith on this beautiful Genio roaster.
