Rockin' & Roastin': The cover of the original

The magical thing about coffee is that each bean offers the possibility of a truly original experience. There are so many variables that effect the final brew in your cup (Craig Charity experimented with temperature for example). Even from one bag of beans, each cup is unique. The flavour changes from the moment you open it through each each cup of coffee you make.

The cynic in me believes that there are no true originals anymore in the music world. The optimist in me refuses to see this as a bad thing. Each experience of any music (even covers, or borrowed beats) is different. I can’t stand that “Call me maybe” song, but then I saw the Barack Obama dubbed version and now every time that bloody teen pop song appears on my airwaves, all I can do is giggle. Fantastic! Does the music move you? Yes? Then does it really make a difference if its completely original? I'm playing devil's advocate here, but surely if the music is inspiring some sort of emotional response or foot-tapping reflex then we should embrace that experience. Leave originality to your coffee beans. Mmmm, it's time for another cup...

This is a sweet hippie version of the hauntingly heartbreaking original. Watch this ensemble do it and then just think for a moment how amazing it is that he made the original all by himself in the woods.

This is a beautiful version of one of my all-time favourite songs, original by Counting Crows.

From the sublime to the ridiculous...Just embrace the silliness and laugh a little. Hey!
